Yesterday being Wednesday, 27th March 2019, YouTube launched a Spotlight Story documentary on Nigerian Afro-fusion singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu popularly known by his stage name “Burna Boy”.
The singer who rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing his lead single, “Like to Party” has actually become one of the leading music artiste in Nigeria, in Africa as a whole and even became an international YouTube sensation.
These days, most Nigerian music artists are now realizing that there is more to just releasing music. They are now seeing the need to connect more with their fans. We have gotten documentaries from Wizkid, Mr. Eazi, Wande Coal and this time around, we just got a new one about Bruna Boy which was produced by YouTube Music.
The documentary is an 18-minute-video that revealed the story of the rise of Afro-beats and the role YouTube played, through Burna Boy’s eyes. In the video, Burna Boy and his manager, Bose Ogulu (who is his mum) shared stories on some of his coming-of-age stories.

This is not the first time YouTube is building a story about Burna Boy. He once got an “Artist on the Rise Feature” on the YouTube for artists’ web page in October 2018.
