Chioma Ajunwa Opara who is first Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold Medalist at the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta has bagged another achievement after obtaining her masters degree from the University of Lagos.
The 48-year-old who till date remains Nigeria’s only individual Olympic Gold medalist was elated after she was given her certificate of honor on Thursday, 4th April 2019 at the University of Lagos Campus.

It is worthy to note that Chioma is the first black African woman to ever win an Olympic Gold Medal in a field event. She specialized in Long jump. But then, shortly after she won the gold medal, she was given a national award as Member of the Order of Niger (MON) by the then Head of State of Nigeria Sani Abacha. Aside that, Chioma is also an officer with the Nigeria Police Force.
