The CEO of Mavin records, Michael Collins Ajereh popularly known by his stage name, Don Jazzy took to his Instagram page and announced that he has signed on a new artist “Rema” to his record label, Mavin records.
Here is what he wrote:
“Today another Mavin is Activated. Mavin/Jonzing is excited to present the newest MAVIN @HeIsREMA. Rema is a super talented young artist I have no doubt is going to be the future of Afrobeats. This is coming just after Reekado Banks exited the label in December 2018.
The 18-year-old new artiste whose real name is Divine Ikubor would be joining other artistes like Tiwa Savage, Korede Bellow, D’ija and a host of others who are signed to the label also.
The young artiste grew up and hustled in Benin. He started out as a rapper in Church and school and at the age of 11, he knew music was his calling and there was no going back. He started performing on several stages in Benin city after which he created his own live band though he was still in school.
The emerging artiste was discovered by Don Jazzy’s younger brother, D’Prince who is known for discovering young talents alongside Mavin Records.
Here is what D’Prince had to say about Rema:
“When I first heard Rema’s work I knew this was an artist I wanted the entire world listening to; his talent and artistry are so far beyond his years”.
Don Jazzy described Rema as a formidable young artist and with his skill and versatility, he definitely has a unique place in the future of Afro Beats.
Don Jazzy is not just a singer but also a record producer, a songwriter and an entrepreneur. He was the co-founder of the record label, “Mo’Hits Records” in 2004. After the collapse of the record label, the veteran singer moved on and set up his own records, “Mavin Records” in 2012.
