Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has recently revealed that he is in complete darkness as to why Independent National Electoral Commission has refused to give him the certificate of return representing Imo West. According to him, the reason for the delay is probably because the electoral body is planning something special.
He revealed all these in Abuja yesterday being Thursday, 14th March 2019. His revelation was coming after INEC failed to include his name among the elected members of the National Assembly invited for the presentation of certificate of returns.
In Okorocha’s words –
I was not there because INEC removed my name from the list of senators having been declared the winner by the zonal returning officer.
So, I am actually waiting to hear why INEC struck my name out. I think probably, INEC must be trying to do something special because I understand once results have been declared and returns made, then you are bound to be issued a certificate of return. But to have exempted me, I am in darkness as to what was the reason why I was not invited to collect my certificate of return.
It is to be recalled that INEC released the list of members of the 9th National Assembly members elected during the February 23rd elections. They released this list on Tuesday, 12th March 2019
Upon releasing their names, the electoral body revealed that certificates of return would be presented to them on Thursday but exempted Governor Okorocha’s name on the allegation that the returning officer Innocent Ibeawuchi was made to declare Okorocha winner of the election “under duress”.
