American singer, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, popularly known as Beyonce, recently featured a number of African artistes on her Lion King: The Gift album.
The queen bee featured artistes from Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and more. Some of the Nigerian artistes who worked with Beyonce on her album include Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Wizkid and Mr Eazi. The music diva has explained the reason for her choice of different artistes with varying sounds. According to Yahoo Finance, Beyonce explained that she was influenced by everything from R&B, Afrobeat, pop and other genres of music.
Here is what she said:
“This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.”
The mother of three added that she wanted to put everyone in their own journey to link the storyline. She further explained that it was important for the music to be performed by the most talented and most interesting African artistes.
“Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”
